Strengthening a Comprehensive and Inclusive Approach to the Prevention of Violent Extremism

  • Quaker House 247 East 48th Street New York, NY, 10017 United States (map)

Hosted by the Civil Society-UN Prevention Platform

In 2016, the Secretary General’s Plan of Action and, the most recent Security Council resolutions, including 2178, 2354 and 2396 set countering and preventing violent extremism efforts in the wider context of a rejuvenation of the Organization’s preventive agenda. In the context of a week at the UN focused on counter-terrorism strategies of Member States, the Civil Society-UN Prevention Platform is convening this discussion to explore ways that civil society, the UN and Member States can work together to engage productively and collaboratively on this issue.

The objective of this meeting is to discuss key actors in countering and preventing of violent extremism, explore ways to better engage local civil society communities, consider the lessons learned at local levels and within the UN system on countering and preventing violent extremism and to set expectations for the week’s upcoming events.
